Electrocautery and Electrolysis
a) Electrocautery is for the treatment and removal of the following skin lesions:
Cherry Angiomas
Benign vascular tumours often developing after age 30, usually ranging in size from pinpoint to 0.5cm. Many patients develop hundreds of them across the body, however they can be removed for cosmetic reasons by electrocautery with minimal discomfort. Rarely, Malignant Melanoma can appear bright red in colour - if a bright red lesion grows rapidly (noticable growth in 1 month), it should be checked by your family doctor.
Spider Veins
Networks of tiny red veins on the face and neck, also known as telangiectasias. They produce no symptoms but can be unsightly. These lesions can be treated by electrocautery of the central vessel.
Common causes are:
- Sun damage
- Hormonal changes
- Hereditary
- Trauma
- Pregnancy (often disappear after childbirth)
Skin Tags
Benign flesh coloured or brown 'tags' that hang off the skin. Usually located around the neck, in the armpits or groin, around eyes or under the breasts. Can be cauterised easily and successfully, particularly when treated in the early stages while still small in size.
Warts
Caused by viruses and can occur anywhere on the skin, particularly hands and feet. Warts on the bottom of the feet are commonly called Planter's Warts and can be spread by direct or indirect contact. The treatments of warts can be difficult, however electrocautery has proven to be very successful and may be combined with cryosurgery.
b) Electrolysis - The Blend Method for permanent removal of unwanted hair
Electrolysis (in particular the Blend method) is the only scientifically and medically proven method of permanent hair removal. It is a progressively permanent treatment that can be used successfully on ALL hair colours and today is still the safest, most effective and most reliable method in use.
